Meet Maria Nalugendo

Nalugendo Maria is a gentle, courageous, and deeply inspiring 13-year-old student currently in Primary Six. Growing up as the third-born in a family of six children—alongside one brother and four sisters—Maria lives under the care of her biological parents, who struggle constantly to provide for their large household.

Life for Maria is uniquely challenging, as she suffers from fragile, weak health that frequently drains her physical energy and interrupts her daily routine. Supporting a large family while attempting to manage Maria’s health needs places a severe, ongoing financial strain on her parents. As a result, securing required medical care alongside termly school tuition and basic scholastic supplies is an overwhelming battle that repeatedly threatens Maria's education.

Despite her physical frailties and the financial anxiety at home, Maria’s spirit remains remarkably strong. Living through repeated health struggles has not dimmed her resolve; instead, it has given her a profound, firsthand understanding of human suffering. Driven by this personal experience, Maria holds a firm, passionate dream of becoming a doctor so she can heal the sick, care for vulnerable children, and bring life-saving medical help to her community.
