Meet Mariam Nakate

Mariam is a witness to the daily heroism of a mother who refuses to let her family sink. With a father who was present only at her conception and has offered nothing since, Mariam’s entire world is supported by a small stall of tomatoes. Her mother sits in the heat and dust every day, turning pennies into meals and trying to turn those meals into a future for her daughter. Mariam understands the weight of every tomato sold; she knows that her education is bought with her mother's sweat. She is a dedicated student who is looking for a sponsor to join her mother’s team, ensuring that the small stall remains a source of food, while a sponsorship becomes the source of her success.
