Meet Zaituni Namugalu

Zaitun Namugalu is a determined, bright, and compassionate 14-year-old student currently in Primary Six. As the last-born in an extraordinarily large household -- surrounded by nine brothers, six sisters, and three cousins -- Zaitun resides under the care of her father and step-mother.

With so many dependents under one roof, Zaitun’s father struggles deeply to provide even the most basic necessities of life, including adequate food, proper clothing, and basic medical care. Raising funds for school fees and purchasing essential learning supplies like exercise books and pens is an ongoing challenge that constantly puts Zaitun’s education at risk. On top of these domestic hardships, Zaitun must endure a long, grueling walk to and from school each day, arriving exhausted yet eager to learn.

Despite the physical exhaustion and the heavy weight of poverty at home, Zaitun remains steadfast in her academic pursuits. Witnessing the lack of access to healthcare in her community and her family's daily struggles has fueled a noble, lifesaving dream: Zaitun wants to become a doctor so she can heal the sick and bring vital medical care to vulnerable families.
