The household's challenges are further compounded by an abusive step-father who visits intermittently, bringing terror and domestic violence into their home. To feed her family, William's mother works grueling hours as a low-paid manual laborer in local sugarcane plantations, leaving them trapped in extreme poverty without enough resources for basic needs or school supplies. Yet, despite everything, William never stops smiling, maintaining an inspiring optimism and a gentle spirit.
